Limestone trends for 2023

As we move into the new year, it's exciting to think about the architectural trends that will shape the built environment in 2023. One material that always seems to stand the test of time is limestone. This versatile and timeless building material has been used for centuries and it continues to be a go-to choice for architects and designers. So, what can we expect to see in terms of natural stone trends in the coming year? Here are a few predictions:

Sustainability

Sustainable sourcing will be more important than ever. With increasing awareness about the environmental impact of building materials, there's a growing demand for natural stone that is sustainably sourced. This means that the stone is harvested in a way that is environmentally friendly and that takes into consideration the long-term health of the quarry. We at MVC are deeply motivated to have the least impact possible, while working to maintain and recover old quarries to the original environment.

Colors and shades

Color is going to be a big deal. While natural stone is often thought of as being neutral in color (think beige, grey, and white), we're starting to see a trend towards using stone in bold and vibrant shades. We are expecting a growing demand in different patterns, like the Golden Lioz and the blue Mármore Azul Lagoa. Also, materials that mix two of the traditional colors are also expected to grow in demand, like Ataíja Mix or Figueiras Mix, for their hardness and unique looks.

Textured finishes

Textured finishes will be on the rise. Smooth, polished finishes have always been popular for natural stone, but we're starting to see a shift towards more rustic, textured finishes. This can be achieved through techniques like sandblasting, bush hammering, or flamed finishes. Our factory has amounted years of experience in this finishes and is always looking for new, innovative textures for our limestone. Browse through our catalogue and find out for yourself.

New shapes

Innovation in shape and form. Architects and designers are getting more creative with natural stone, using it to create unique, curving, organic shapes that would be difficult or impossible to achieve with other materials. This trend towards sculptural, organic shapes is definitely one to watch in 2023.

Experiment with materials

Mix and match. Another trend that's likely to continue in the new year is the use of natural stone in combination with other materials. This can be achieved through the use of stone cladding or through the use of stone accents in conjunction with materials like wood, metal, or glass.

Overall, it looks like natural stone will remain a popular choice for architects and designers in 2023. Whether used in traditional or cutting-edge designs, this timeless material is sure to make a statement in the coming year.
