MVC hosts final demonstration on circular economy project
1 Jun
MVC - Portuguese Limestones hosted, on the 31st of May, the final public demonstration of the R&D project digital.STONE. We had over two dozen people in our facilities to witness the closing of a project to research and develop new applications for the waste of natural limestone cutting, namely 3D printing. We had the pleasure of hosting researchers, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople involved with the natural stone and R&D sectors.
The main goal of digital.STONE is to develop a valorization process to recover waste sludge from extracting and processing natural stone through a production line of differentiated parts, by additive manufacturing. The aim is to associate the stone dust sludge, with the concept of by-products, as "secondary" raw materials to be effectively reintroduced in the innovative process of 3D printing.
The consortium promoting this event is made up of 3 companies, HRV - Equipamentos de Processo S.A, TAKENET, Unipessoal Lda, and MVC, and also by two non-business entities, Instituto Politécnico de Leiria (IPL) and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), two of the most prestigious portuguese academic institutions.
This project is just one of the several MVC is deeply invested in, in order to promote a more circular and sustainable production, finding new applications and business opportunities for our industry's by-products.
